Begin Within is the name of this coaching practice — and it is also its philosophy.

Every lasting leadership shift begins not with a new strategy or a better system, but with a leader who is willing to look inward first. To notice what is driving them. To understand what they are carrying. And what they are ready to release.

To choose, with intention, who they want to be as a leader. That is the work. And it is some of the most meaningful work a leader can do.

Coaching engagements are available independently — you do not need to have participated in any other program to work with Dr. Samuels in this way.

How We Work Together

Begin Within coaching engagements are built around where you are, what you are carrying, and what you are ready to explore. No two engagements look exactly alike — because no two leaders are exactly alike.

All sessions are conducted virtually, making it easy to fit coaching into your schedule regardless of where you are located.

Most engagements unfold over 12 WEEKS, with sessions held weekly or every other week depending on what feels right for the pace and depth of the work. Sessions are intentionally designed to be focused and transformative — 45 minutes that go deeper than most coaching goes in twice the time. Across the full 12 weeks, the work tends to move through three natural phases: first, noticing your own learned patterns and engaging in the deeper work of releasing what no longer serves; next, practicing self-awareness while interacting with others; and finally, integrating those shifts into how you actually lead — accessing your unique strengths, purpose, and intuition with greater intention and confidence.

For leaders who want a deeper, more sustained engagement, Begin Within also offers an extended
SIX-MONTH journey that includes additional sessions and between-session access to Dr. Samuels — by email, voice note, or a brief check-in call — for moments when you need support between conversations. The right scope and pace for your journey is something we discover together, shaped by your personal goals and what your leadership is calling for right now.

Investment is discussed during the initial consultation and is based on the scope and duration of the engagement.

About Dr. Samuels

Dr. Dena Samuels brings over 25 years of experience in leadership development, social science, and organizational consulting to every coaching relationship. She is a certified virtual coach and an award-winning tenured professor at the University of Colorado — Colorado Springs, with a client portfolio spanning more than 150 organizations including NASA, Yale University, PBS, Humana, and the U.S. Air Force Academy.

Her coaching approach is grounded in the INNER framework, informed by current research in leadership, neuroscience, and human development, and shaped by a deep commitment to meeting each leader exactly where they are.
